Solution Costs

According to Gartner Research, there are 4 common stages to a company’s Analytical solution.

  1. Operational Level – “Basic metrics”
The first introductory step to understanding your business. This typically is composed of OLAP style reporting and ad hoc queries to help drive your business decisions.

  2. Monitoring Level – “Simple personalization”
During this stage your company is beginning to offer basic features to make browsing easier to its customers. Examples would be membership, keyword searches, opt-in emails, individualized service, and personalized shopping carts. This level of service has come to be expected from today’s customers.

  3. Leverage Level – “Customer profiling”
This stage begins taking full advantage of the data that your company collects. All of your available data sources are merged to create an analytical data mart that allows for efficient and accurate data mining and advanced analytics. This critical information stage gives insight into a company’s business and its customers. If performed correctly, this creates an enormous advantage over all competitors.

  4. Strategy Level – “Advanced business analytics”
Amazon.com exemplifies this advanced stage through quality targeting and analytics. For a company to reach this pinnacle, it must show a deep dedication to technology. In the end, the company will have superior customer service that accurately predicts products and services that the customer is interested in. Campaign creation and individualized offers become a snap since the targeting engine is tied in directly to the email, direct mail, or web content system.
